Newport, R.I. - The men's golf team finished right where they started Tuesday, having begun the day tied for ninth overall in the Adams Cup field, and finishing in sole possession of the ninth spot after the final 18 holes yesterday in Newport. Captain Tom McCarthy tied for 14th overall, the Bulldogs' top finisher at 7-over for the tournament.
The University of Central Florida dominating the field, posting a 54-hole combined score of just 4-over; the University of West Florida, the second place finisher, were a full 18 strokes behind the Bulls at 22-over. The Bulldogs finished their three rounds at 44-over - four strokes ahead of the host URI Rams and four strokes behind eighth place finisher Seton Hall.
Sophomore Bradley Kushner also had a strong showing for the Elis, shooting a combined 10-over 226 in three rounds. Freshman Sam Bernstein was the third Bulldog to crack the individual top 50, taking 33rd at 12-over. Kushner, Bernstein, and the rest of the field were all chasing UCF's Greg Eason, the tournament's individual champion and the only player in the field to finish with his combined score under par (-2, 224). Central Connecticut's Kevin Josephson took second at even par through his 54 holes.
The Bulldogs now return home to host the Macdonald Cup at the nation's top collegiate course, the Golf Course at Yale, October 2-3.
