Elis Poised to Make Sunday Push at Big Five Invitational

Philadelphia, P.A. – A week after finishing second in a highly competitive field at their own Macdonald Cup, the Yale men's golf team is poised for another strong finish at the Big Five Invitational, sitting in sixth after the first 36 holes at Plymouth Country Club. Captain Tom McCarthy showed why he is the reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, shooting two rounds of 69 to finish at -1 on the day, good for third in the overall individual standings.

Russell Holmes also shot identical scores in the first and second rounds, posting two rounds of 74 to tie him for 33rd at 4-over. Freshman Sam Bernstein, sophomore Bradley Kushner and junior Jeff Hatten finished the day just behind him, all tied for 42nd at 5-over.

Just like they were last weekend at the Course at Yale, the Bulldogs are chasing St. John's University's Red Storm, who sit just ahead of the Elis in fifth. Furman  leads at +3, while Yale's Ancient Eight rival Princeton is in second at +9. At +13, the Bulldogs sit just 10 strokes behind the leader, four off the pace of the second-place Tigers, and in great position to make a move up the leaderboard in Sunday's closing rounds.
