Look to Leap Up Leaderboard on Day Two
NEWPORT, R.I. – A strong first day's play by the Yale men's golf team at the Adams Cup on Monday sees them perched in sixth place, ready to challenge for the title when the second day's play gets underway at the Newport National Golf Course.
Already, the Bulldogs' position on the leaderboard represents an improvement over last year's result, when they finished in ninth place. In first and second place at the moment are UCF and the University of Georgia.
Individually, junior Bradley Kushner is setting an example for his teammates – he sits in a tie for 11th place overall, an apt reward for his consistent Even round.
Also in contention is freshman William Davenport, who put in an excellent first round of tournament play to end the day at 73 (+1) and in a tie for 16th place. While his performance bodes well for the future of the team, so did the efforts of sophomore Sam Bernstein, who battled through the day to finish at 74 (+2) and a tie for 24th place.
Sharing that same position on the leaderboard is junior Russell Holmes, who also showed glimpses of his best as he made his way through the difficult Newport course.
Senior captain Jeffrey Hatten fought his way through the day to finish back at 79 (+7), a score that puts him in a tie for 70th place.
