Elis Head to Big Five Tournament
Making the Trip to Philly With High Expecations
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's golf team will be riding on a high wave of momentum as it heads to Philadelphia for the Oct. 8-9 Big Five tournament, to be played this year at the Plymouth Country Club.
Last week, the Bulldogs clinched the Macdonald Cup at the Yale golf course, winning with a dominant five-stroke advantage. But this week's competition, hosted by the "Big Five" division I schools in the Philadelphia area – LaSalle, Penn, St. Joseph's, Temple and Villanova – will still be a tough won to win.
Still, the Elis have several players in fine form, with individual performances combining well in a team that just this past week climbed to No. 38 in the national rankings.
Leading the way have been sophomore Sam Bernstein, junior Bradley Kushner and senior captain Jeffrey Hatten. Bernstein finished in second-place at last weekend's Macdonald Cup and Kushner was not far behind, in a tie for fourth place. All these players, along with freshman William Davenport, will be looking to push the Elis to the top of the leaderboard.
They will look first and foremost to improve on last year's result at the tournament: a tie for fifth place. The first round of play kicks off Saturday morning.
