Tough Weather on Second Day
PURCHASE, N.Y. — After a tough second day's play, including sporadic difficult weather, the Yale men's golf team finished in fifth place at the Apr. 21-22 Century Intercollegiate at the Century Country Club in Purchase, N.Y.
The Bulldogs scored 625 overall, 25 strokes behind tournament winners Rhode Island, which closed the day at 600. Ancient Eight rivals Harvard, Princeton and Dartmouth finished in second, third and fourth place, respectively.
The weather day out on the course Sunday caused difficulties at points throughout the day, but overall, that did not deter several strong performances.
Senior captain Jeffrey Hatten scored the best of the Yale golfers, finishing in a tie for ninth place individually after scoring +11 overall. Freshman Sam Bernstein notched up +13 overall to finish in a tie for 12th overall.
At last year's Century Intercollegiate — also at the same venue — the Elis took home third place, behind Ivy League rivals Harvard, who won the competition.
The rest of the field at the tournament included Brown, Cornell and Temple.
Next up for the Bulldogs is Apr. 27-29 Ivy League Championship at the Galloway National Golf Course in Galloway, N.J.
