Honor Caps Off Strong Season
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Rising junior Sam Bernstein was named to the PING Division I All-Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Wednesday.
Bernstein shares the honor with 154 other players across six regions nationwide, including just six golfers in the Ivy League. The honor caps off a strong season in which Bernstein made consistently meaningful contributions to the Yale men's golf team.
"I am extremely honored to be named to the PING All-Northeast Region Team for the second straight year," Bernstein said. "Much of the credit goes to Coach Sheehan, my teammates and the staff at the Yale Golf Course who work hard with me at practice every day and continually help me improve my golf game."
Playing in nine tournaments this past academic year, Bernstein posted several notable performances: he finished second at the Macdonald Cup, third at the Ivy League Championship and tied for fourth at the Adams Cup and at the Classic at Shelter Harbor. Throughout his tournament rounds, he averaged 73.8 strokes a round and posted a low round of 67.
This is not the first time Bernstein has been honored for his golfing prowess: last year, he was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year and this past year, he made the first-team All-Ivy for his performance at the Ivy League Championship.
