Victory Against Brown, Princeton
NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The Yale men's golf team scored two victories—against Brown and Princeton—on Saturday at the Oct. 19-20 Ivy League Matchplay, held this year at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J.
In the first round of the day, the Elis narrowly beat out Brown 4-3. In the round's other matches Cornell, Harvard and Princeton posted victories.
Then, the Bulldogs claimed a substantial 6-1 victory against Princeton in the day's second round. Dartmouth and Penn also recorded wins in the second round, while the remaining match between Columbia and Harvard was suspended and will resume on Sunday.
The strong opening day's performance testifies to Yale's preparation and momentum this season. The team has three strong tournament results under its belt: a first-place finish at the Sept. 14-15 Doc Gimmler, a third-place finish at the Sept. 23-24 Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic and a second-place finish at the Oct. 5-6 Macdonald Cup.
On Sunday, the Elis will look to close strongly when they play the winner of the Harvard-Columbia match. They will look to improve on their result at last year's Ivy League Matchplay, where they finished in fourth.
