Wraps Up Fall on High Note

NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The Yale men's golf team capped off a successful fall with victory on Sunday at the Oct. 19-20 Ivy League Match Play, held this year at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J.

In the playoff for first-place, the Elis beat out Harvard 4-3 to win the two-day tournament. That victory followed wins against Brown (4-3) and Princeton (6-1) on Saturday.

In the other matches on Sunday, Columbia topped Princeton 4-3 in the third-place playoff; Dartmouth triumphed over Penn (4.5-2.5) for fifth place; and Brown beat Cornell 4-3 to claim seventh place.

Sunday's win substantially improves upon the Bulldogs' result last year at the Ivy League Match Play, where they finished in fourth place. Yale entered the Ivy League Match Play seeded in first place among the Ancient Eight teams by Golfstat rankings, and the team's play certainly lived up to that ranking.

The victory also consolidates momentum after a string of strong performances earlier this season. Yale's tournament results this fall include a first-place finish at the Sept. 14-15 Doc Gimmler, a third-place finish at the Sept. 23-24 Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic and a second-place finish at the Oct. 5-6 Macdonald Cup.

The Ivy League Match Play wraps up the Elis' fall competition. The Bulldogs will train through the winter and return to competition at the Mar. 22-23 Linger Longer Invitational, which will take place at the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga.
