Mills Becomes 13th Eli in NHL

Class of '07 Forward Scores vs. Chicago

NEWARK, N.J. - The number of Yale graduates playing in the National Hockey League doubled last week when Brad Mills '07 joined the New Jersey Devils. He is the 13th Bulldog to skate in the NHL since Bob Brooke broke in with the 1983-84 New York Rangers.

Mills didn't wait long to make an impact, scoring the game-winning goal Wednesday night in a 5-3 decision against the defending NHL champion Chicago Blackhawks.

The former Yale forward, who has played 157 American Hockey League games between the Lowell and Albany Devils, has 22 goals and 50 points in his pro career.

Mills, 27, was with the Devils in the pre-season but was sent down before the opener. His first game in the big league was Oct. 30 against the Los Angeles Kings.

As many as four Yale graduates have skated in the NHL in the same season at different points.

Chris Higgins '05, who has played for the Canadiens, Rangers, Flames and Panthers, is the other Bulldog currently in the league.
