O'Neill, Miller, Cahill Named All-ECAC
3 Bulldogs Honored on Championship Weekend
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Three Yale men's skaters have been selected to the 2010-11 All-ECAC Hockey Team announced tonight at the conference championship banquet at Boardwalk Hall. Brian O'Neill (Yardley, Pa.) and Andrew Miller (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) were both first-team picks, while Chris Cahill (North Andover, Mass.) was a third-team selection.
The No. 3 ranked Bulldogs (25-6-1) are on the Jersey Shore to compete for the conference tournament championship, facing Colgate Friday at 4:30 p.m. in the first semifinal contest at Boardwalk Hall.
O'Neill, a junior forward, had 12 goals and 25 points in 22 conference outings. His goal total was second among ECAC players while he tied Chace Polacek of Rensselaer, the conference player of the year, for the points lead. One of three finalists for the conference player of the year award, O'Neill had a hat trick at Clarkson and has had a point in all but four games overall this winter.
Miller, a sophomore on the same line as O'Neill, scored nine times and had 27 points in ECAC games. His 1.23 points per game average and 18 assists were both tops in the conference. He has had 11 multiple-point outings this winter including a four-assist contest against Union in December and a two-goal game against Cornell at New Haven.
Cahill also notched nine goals (24 points) in helping the Elis to a 17-4-1 ECAC mark, second-place in the regular season. He had four multiple-goal nights and a trio of three-point games to help the Blue tie its school record for conference victories.
Captain Jimmy Martin also received recognition as one of three finalists for the Best Defensive Defenseman Award. He happens to be enjoying his best offensive campaign for the Bulldogs with seven goals overall. His 55 career points are ninth among Yale blueliners.
Yale, the top seed among the ECAC's final four, practiced from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. today to prepare for the fourth-seeded Raiders. That game can be seen live on CBS College Sports TV.
