Backman Signs With Islanders

Ex-Bulldog Star Gets Closer to Home

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Sean Backman '10 has signed a one-year, two-way (AHL/NHL) deal with the New York Islanders.

Backman had seven goals and 23 points in 67 games with the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League during his first professional season last year.  He also had four points (two goals) in five games with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL.

A two-way agreement means his compensation is determined by the league/team he plays for. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers, who play at Webster Bank's Arena at Harbor Yard, are the AHL affiliate of the Islanders.

Backman (Cos Cob, Conn.), who grew up between Uniondale and Bridgeport, was one of the most decorated players in Yale hockey history. He earned All-America honors while totaling 126 points (77 goals, 49 assists) in 122 career games.
