Big Turnout For Murdoch Tournament
Great Support For Hockey Programs
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – One hundred and five golfers took part in the 2012 Murray Murdoch Golf Outing to benefit the Yale Hockey Teams on Aug. 20 at the famous Course at Yale. Among the attendees were 10 current or former professional hockey players, ex-National Hockey League standouts Randy Wood '86 and Bob Logan '86 and 70 former Bulldog skaters.
Keith Allain '80, Yale's Malcolm G. Chace Head Coach of Men's Hockey, and women's head coach Joakim Flygh (a.k.a. UK) took part in the golfing in different ways. Allain, the former Eli goalie, was stationed on the famous ninth hole hitting shots with each group and getting a chance to meet everyone. Flygh played in one of the foursomes and got a chance to greet everyone before the golf and during the dinner under the big tent off the third fairway overlooking the pond.
Both coaches spoke at the dinner and thanked everyone for supporting the hockey programs.
"This is the type of event that reminds me how fortunate I am to be involved with Yale Hockey," said Allain, who has also experienced the program as a player and an assistant coach. "We had a great time out there today."
Paul Castraberti '81, who provided many of the sports memorabilia auction items despite traveling from Vero Beach, Fla., to take part in the festivities, served as the master of ceremonies. Castraberti was as entertaining as always after playing the 18 holes with Jim MacDonald '78, Dave Harrington '78 and Jack Curren, who provided the two spectacular vacation package auction items.
Daryl Jones, the president of the Yale Hockey Association, also spoke to the crowd while it enjoyed another fantastic meal from Widdy's at the Course at Yale.
