Malcolm Gets 2nd Straight Honor
ALBANY, N.Y. – The Yale men swept all three ECAC Hockey Awards last week, and now they have taken five of the last six selected. Jeff Malcolm (Lethbridge, Alb.) was named goalie of the week on Tuesday, while teammate Antoine Laganiere (Ile Cadieux, Que.) earned player of the week honors after the Bulldogs beat Harvard and Dartmouth at Ingalls Rink last weekend.
Malcolm, a senior who has won consecutive ECAC Goalie of the Week awards, stopped 48 of 50 shots and nine of 10 power plays to improve his season save percentage to .922, while his goals against average moved to 2.36.
Laganiere, who is second in the nation with .67 goals per game, leads the team with 12 tallies and 23 points this season. He is also one of the hottest players in the country with 21 goals over his last 27 games dating to last season. He hit the net twice last week and added three assists in the Yale sweep at home. It's his first conference honor of the year.
Malcolm and Laganiere helped Yale up its unbeaten string to five games heading into another big conference weekend. The Bulldogs (11-4-3), ranked 5th in the pairwise and 7/8 in the two polls, skate at No. 18 Cornell Friday night (NBC Sports Network) before heading to Colgate for a Saturday night game.
