Seniors Earn Player, Goalie of Month Honors
ALBANY, N.Y. – Andrew Miller and Jeff Malcolm, who spearheaded Yale's national championship run, picked up additional honors today as they were named ECAC Hockey player and goalie of the month. The two seniors, fresh off the Frozen Four Title at Pittsburgh, put together some impressive statistics during March and early April to grab the final conference awards of the 2012-13 season.
Miller, Yale's All-America captain, had six goals and 15 points over the last regular season weekend and the post season. The nine assists helped him become the school's career leader with 114, surpassing Bob Brooke's mark in the championship game at Pittsburgh last Saturday.
Malcolm, the Frozen Four's All-Tournament goalie who blanked Quinnipiac in the finale, went 8-2-0 during March/April with a 1.76 goals against and a pair of shutouts. He stopped 52 of 54 shots at Pittsburgh including all 36 against the Bobcats.
The two Yale veterans, along with recently signed forward Antoine Laganiere (Anaheim), are scheduled to be with their teammates at Fenway Park tomorrow to be honored for the national championship by the Boston Red Sox on Connecticut Day. The plan is for Miller to throw out the "first pitch" with the Yale team behind him.
