Alec Richards, the senior goalie on the No. 14 ranked Yale men's hockey team, has been named insidehockey.com National Player of the Week as well as ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week after a great weekend performance in wins over No. 9 Princeton and Quinnipiac at New Haven.
Richards stopped 63 of 64 shots overall and did not allow a power-play goal on 14 chances. He made 32 saves in a 3-1 win over the Tigers on Jan. 30 before knocking aside 31 in a 3-0 shutout of Quinnipiac.
The Bulldog netminder has played in 13 of Yale's 21 games and now has a 2.41 goals against average with a .906 save percentage.
Richards, the first Eli to earn these honors in 2008-09, helped Yale improve its record to 15-5-1 overall. His squad is home this weekend for games against Harvard and Dartmouth at Ingalls Rink.
