Season Opens at Home on Feb. 27
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The 2010 Yale men's lacrosse schedule became official today, and head coach Andy Shay has assembled a challenging slate in and out of the powerful Ivy League, which welcomes its inaugural post-season tournament this spring. The new schedule includes five opponents among the top 20 in the final 2009 rankings, seven home games and six on the road.
The Bulldogs, who face Stony Brook and Hofstra in February pre-season scrimmages, open the regular campaign at Reese Stadium on Feb. 27 against Holy Cross. The first four contests are out of the Ivy League with Massachusetts, Presbyterian and Lehigh following the opener.
Yale, led by captain Brendan Gibson, has back-to-back Saturday afternoon games against 2009 NCAA runner-up Cornell at Ithaca and quarterfinalist Princeton at New Haven. Those two squads have helped the Ivy to 15 NCAA Championship Game appearances and nine national titles since the first Division I tournament in 1971.
The game against the Tigers is the first of three straight at Reese, which is close to the final stages of a full restoration. Penn and Detroit Mercy are in town before the Bulldogs head out for three straight on the road: Dartmouth, Providence and Brown.
The Elis complete their non-league slate by hosting Bryant before Harvard comes to town on May 1 for the regular-season finale.
