Falcone Candidate For Lowe's Award
Senior Goalie 1 of 2 Ivy Players Picked
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Johnathan Falcone, a senior goalie on the Yale Lacrosse Team, has named one of the 20 NCAA student-athlete candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in lacrosse. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.
Falcone, an honorable mention All-Ivy pick last spring, held six of the last seven opponents in single digits on the way to a .502 save percentage and an 8.54 goals against average.
The economics major with a 3.84 GPA is just as impressive off the field. Falcone, who spent a summer at the London School of Economics and Political Science, is a member of the Economics Undergraduate Student Advisory Committee. In addition, he was elected as secretary of Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity while being a significant contributor to "Bulldog Buddies," a Yale community outreach program that has students serving as mentors to New Haven Public School children.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 2011 candidate class includes 13 student-athletes with cumulative grade point averages of 3.0 or better. Ten are from teams ranked in the Inside Lacrosse preseason top 20, and eight players competed in the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship last season, with two on the winning team.
Lowe's, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the winner May 28 at the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship in Baltimore.
