6 Yalies Make All-Ivy Team

Gibson Makes 2011 First Team

PRINCETON, N.J. - Six Yale players received 2011 All-Ivy League recognition today as the Bulldogs (10-3) prepare for Friday night's league tournament semifinal at Cornell. The Elis had one first-team pick, junior Matt Gibson, a pair of second-teamers and three honorable mentions.

Gibson (Point Lookout, N.Y.), who has played in 11 of 13 games, leads the Blue with 16 assists. He is second on the team with 17 goals and 33 points. It's his first selection to the top All-Ivy squad.

Senior goalie Johnathan Falcone (Flemington, N.J.) made the second team after earning honorable mention in 2010. His league-best 6.99 goals against average and .571 save percentage (3rd) are two good reasons why.  Junior midfielder Gregory Mahony (Mercer Island, Wash.), who has 16 goals and 23 points, joins Falcone on the second unit.

Seniors Brian Douglass (Waccabuc, N.Y.) and Patrick Coleman (Ridgewood, N.J.) and sophomore Michael McCormack (West Islip, N.Y.) were all honorable mentions. Douglass led the team with 28 goals, which was second among Ivy players, and 42 points, while Coleman and McCormack were the guys taking the ball away from opponents. McCormack led Yale with 33 caused turnovers as a second-year starter. Coleman, the team captain who chipped in three goals and four points, had 27 takeaways.

Three juniors, two seniors and a sophomore were selected from a Yale squad that had the same number of players on the 2010 All-Ivy team.
