11 Freshmen Join Men’s Lax Team

3 New Bulldogs on Power 100

 

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale men's lacrosse team welcomed 11 new members this fall. The Class of 2015 includes student-athletes from five different states, three of whom are listed among Inside Lacrosse Magazine's Power 100 Freshmen.

The new Bulldogs include three midfielders, three attackmen, four defensemen, and a goalie.

Four newcomers are New York residents; three are from Connecticut; a pair from Massachusetts; and one from both New Jersey and Maryland.

"I'm extremely pleased to welcome our new student-athletes to campus. We have assembled a great group of young men and are excited about the potential for this class to continue building upon the foundation of success established the last few seasons," said Yale head coach Andy Shay.

David Better

At Brunswick School: Earned four varsity letters in lacrosse (defense) and two in soccer (goalie)… Picked up 68 ground balls senior year… 2011 first-team All-New England and U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-America… 2009 and 2010 New England Under Armour Underclassmen All-America… Captain and MVP for a 2011 team that finished second in New England West I Division (best finish)… 2011 Soccer Coaches Award… Soccer team earned school's first-ever playoff berth in WNEPSSA Class A… National Merit Commended Scholar… AP Scholar with Distinction… 2011 US Lacrosse Academic All-America.

Personal: David William Better is the son of Nancy and Jamie Better… Mother is a 1984 Yale graduate… Father played hockey at Williams… Sales associate for Vineyard Vines clothing store for two summers.

 

Alec Bullen

D/LSM, 6-0, 175

Manchester, Mass.

 

At Belmont Hill School: 2011 all-league and All-New England pick… Played in East-West All-Star Game… 2010 honorable mention all-league… Also played three years of soccer on defense.

Personal: Alec Michael Bullen is the son of Katherine and Philip Bullen… Brother, Marcus, is a class of 2013 member of the national championship Trinity College squash team… He and his brother are dual (UK) citizens.

 

Alirio Demeireles

At Syosset: Two-time lacrosse captain and four-year starter… Two-time defensive MVP… Three-time All-Nassau County… Two-time Nassau County Champions… Long Island champions and state runner-up… New York (downstate) Champions… Three-time Syosset Scholar-Athlete… AP Scholar with Distinction… Marc Imundo Memorial Scholarship… Varsity football starter for three years.

Personal: Alirio Demeireles is the son of Mary and Jorge Demeireles… Brother, Marco, played varsity lacrosse at Williams.

 

Colin Flaherty

Personal: Harry Kucharczyk is the son of Debbie and John Kucharczyk… Sister is a lacrosse player at Harvard in class of 2013… Plays the piano.
