  • Yale No. 7 in Final National Poll
    May 31, 2013
    The end result of winning the Ivy League Tournament Championship and a first-round NCAA contest and then nearly upsetting Syracuse in the quarterfinals was a No. 7 ranking for the Yale men’s lacrosse team in the final Nike Division Media Poll. That is the highest ranking for a Bulldog squad since the early 1990s.
  • Johnson, McCormack Scholar All-Americans

    A pair of Yale senior defensemen picked up the last awards of the 2013 men’s lacrosse season for their work in the classroom. Peter Johnson (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Michael McCormack (West Islip, NY) were named USILA Scholar All-Americans today.
  • 3 Elis Earn All-America Status

    For the second straight year, the Yale men’s lacrosse team has three players selected as United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-Americans. Senior defenseman Peter Johnson (Minnetonka, Minn.) and juniors Dylan Levings (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Brandon Mangan (Wantagh, N.Y.) received honorable mention status.

    The finishing touches on a fourth straight double-digit win season came with the eight Yale Lacrosse Association individual awards being handed out. The Bulldogs, coming off a 12-5 season and spot in the NCAA Quarterfinals at College Park, Md., had many highlights during the 2013 campaign, including a second straight Ivy League Tournament title and NCAA appearance. The final one was captain Michael McCormack receiving the L.C. Stowell Award as the team’s most valuable player.
  • 3 Bulldogs Picked For USILA North-South Game

    The Bulldogs came within a game of playing this weekend in the national semifinals, but three Yale players have been invited to showcase their skills close to Lincoln Financial Center in all-star competition. Defensemen Michael McCormack and Peter Johnson and attackman Kirby Zdrill have been selected to play in the 2013 USILA/Lax World Division I-II North-South Senior All-Star Game at Edith Robb Dixon Field on the campus of Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa., on Friday, May 24, at 5:30 PM.

    Jimmy Craft, a defenseman who helped the Yale men’s lacrosse team win an Ivy League Tournament Championship and reach the NCAA Tournament in consecutive years, has been named 2014 captain after a vote by his teammates.

    The Yale men’s lacrosse team (12-4), which captured its first NCAA Tournament win since 1992 on Saturday at Penn State, takes on No. 1 seed Syracuse (14-3) at 3 p.m. this Saturday on Capital One Field in Byrd Stadium at College Park, Md. This national quarterfinal can be seen on ESPN2. The Bulldogs, playing in the NCAA Tournament for a school-record second straight spring, are coming off a 10-7 win at No. 8 seed Penn State. The Orangemen advanced to the second round by beating Bryant at the Carrier Dome, 12-7, on Sunday night.

    The Yale men's lacrosse team, which scored six straight goals to erase a four-goal deficit while holding No. 1 Syracuse scoreless for 43 minutes, needed to protect a two-goal lead with a little over three minutes left to earn its first national semifinal appearance since 1990. The 6-4 lead evaporated in a span of 44 seconds and then Dylan Donahue found the net with 13 seconds left as the Orange squeezed past the Bulldogs 7-6 in the NCAA Quarterfinal at Byrd Stadium.

Colin Flaherty scored three goals to pace the Bulldogs, who advance to the quarterfinals next weekend at the University of Maryland. Yale plays the winner of Saturday night’s Syracuse-Bryant game.

    Junior Brandon Mangan (Wantagh, NY.) has been named a Tewaaraton Award Nominee by the Tewaaraton Foundation. There are 25 nominees for the top player in men’s lacrosse this season and five will be selected on May 30 as finalists.
