Bulldog Defensemen Go On Consecutive Picks
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale students came back from winter break this week, but before classes began a pair of Bulldog lacrosse players were selected consecutively in the seventh round of Major League Lacrosse's 2013 Collegiate Draft. Senior defensemen Michael McCormack (West Islip, NY) and Peter Johnson (Minnetonka, Minn.) were taken 51st and 52nd, respectively.
McCormack, the 2013 Yale captain, and Johnson (in photo) have been named to just about every pre-season All-America and All-Ivy League squad. They are the defensive cornerstones for the Elis, the defending league tournament champions who went 11-5 last spring and are ranked 20th in this winter's pre-season national poll.
Matt Gibson '12 and Greg Mahony '12 were drafted a year ago. Gibson, the 38th pick, made the MLL All-Star Game, was named league rookie of the year and is currently playing with the U.S. National Team. Jack Flaherty '11 was drafted a few weeks before them in the supplemental selections.
McCormack, Johnson and the Bulldogs are preparing for scrimmages that begin on Feb. 9, three weeks before the regular season starts at St. John's.
