Feb. 18, 2009
The Yale men's lacrosse team opens its 2009 campaign this Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at Holy Cross (0-1).
Series vs. Crusaders
Yale has won seven of the eight meetings while outscoring the Crusaders 117-40. The series began in 1965 with an 18-6 Bulldog win at New Haven. The only time the Elis did not score in double digits was last year's 7-6 loss at Reese Stadium.
Brian Douglass' desperation shot with seconds left on the clock was blocked as Holy Cross preserved a 7-6 win over Yale on opening day at Reese Stadium last February. The Elis, who led most of the game, got 17 saves from George Carafides. Jimmy Harrison had 22 stops for Holy Cross. Matt Moran led all scorers with three goals for the visitors, while Yale's Tyler Casertano hit the net twice.
Head Coach Andy Shay Says
"We are extremely excited to get going again. We feel like we got a lot out of our two scrimmages, and I think the team just wants to play someone for real now."
Note: This game was recently changed from a 1 p.m. start to a noon faceoff.
