NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale men's soccer team closed out last season by going 3-1-2 in its final six games. The Bulldogs hope that momentum carries over this fall. Yale kicks off the 2009 season on Saturday night, hosting Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. at Reese Stadium. Live stats of the game will be available at yalebulldogs.com.
A small but talented senior class will lead the Bulldogs. Travis Chulick, Kevin Pope, Jon Carlos, Justin Song and captain Jordan Raybould have combined to play in 196 games in their careers. In addition, there are two All-Ivy returners. Junior Aden Farina-Henry and sophomore Andy Hackbarth were both honorable mention selections last year.
Quinnipiac was picked to finish third in the Northeast Conference preseason coaches poll. The Bobcats had a 10-5-4 overall record last year, including a 5-2-2 mark in NEC play. Two-time All-NEC second team goalkeeper Freddy Hall is back for his senior season after playing every minute last year. His 83 saves ranked second in the conference, while posting the fourth-best goals-against average with a 1.05 mark. Hall had seven shutouts en route to finishing with 10 wins.
Yale is 10-0 all-time against Quinnipiac. Last year, Liam Leonard scored both goals as the Bulldogs blanked the Bobcats 2-0 in Hamden.
