Alers, Jacobson, McKiernan, Thalman Recognized By CollegeSportsMadness

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Four Yale men's soccer players have earned preseason all-conference recognition from CollegeSportsMadness.com. Defender Nick Alers was named to the Ivy League first team, while forward Peter Jacobson, midfielder Max McKiernan and goalkeeper Bobby Thalman were second team selections.

Alers, who has started all 32 games he has appeared in his first two seasons at Yale, was an NSCAA All-Northeast Region third team selection last fall and also earned first team All-Ivy honors. He anchored a Yale defense that yielded only 16 goals and posted four shutouts.

Jacobson was an honorable mention All-Ivy selection a year ago when he tied for fourth in the league with seven goals.

McKiernan also earned honorable mention All-Ivy recognition last fall. He was one of only four players to start all 17 games.

Thalman, the 2012 team captain, has played 3,061 of a possible 3,185 minutes in the Yale goal in the last two seasons. He was named second team All-Ivy last fall after leading the league in save percentage (.852) and saves (92).

The Bulldogs, who began preseason practice last Friday, play their first regular season game on Aug. 31 at Central Connecticut.
