Bulldogs Host Colgate Friday; Visit Fairfield Sunday
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's soccer team faces a pair of teams this weekend that reached the NCAA Tournament in 2011. The Bulldogs host Patriot League champion Colgate on Friday at 7 p.m. and then travel to defending MAAC champion Fairfield on Sunday. Kickoff against the Stags is slated for 1 p.m. There will be a kickoff tailgate party prior to Friday's game.
Yale (0-2) is coming off a hard-fought 2-0 loss to Albany in Monday's home opener. The final score is deceiving. The Bulldogs had the better of the play for much of the game, and the Great Danes scored their second goal with only three seconds left in the second half.
Goalkeeper Bobby Thalman was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll on Monday. He made eight saves in the season opener against Central Connecticut.
Colgate (1-2-1) was picked to win the Patriot League in the annual preseason poll voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors. The Red Raiders lost to Rutgers in the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament. Patrick Letourneau was named the league's preseason defensive player of the year and joined Shane Conlin and Mike Garzi as preseason all-league selections.
Fairfield (1-1) hasn't played since a 1-0 loss to Boston College on Monday. The Stags opened the season with a 1-0 victory over Columbia. Fairfield, who lost to Brown in first round of the NCAA Tournament last year, is the preseason MAAC favorite.
