Yale Hosts Pioneers Sunday At 1 p.m.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A pair of state rivals are on tap for the Yale men's soccer team this weekend. The Bulldogs make the short trip to Quinnipiac on Friday for a 4 p.m. kickoff and then host Sacred Heart on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Reese Stadium. Sunday's game is the first of a doubleheader with the Yale women, who host Central Connecticut at 4 p.m.
Yale (0-3-1) has played well in its last two games. The Bulldogs earned a scoreless tie with defending Patriot League champion Colgate last Friday, despite playing a man down for nearly 100 minutes, and then dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision at Fairfield, the defending MAAC champions, on Sunday. Yale has generated a number of scoring chances so far this season but is still searching for its first goal.
Quinnipiac (2-2) is coming off a 2-1 loss at Loyola, Md., last Saturday. One of the keys to containing the Bobcats is stopping Philip Surprise, who has four of the team's seven goals on the season. Boria Angoitia has played every minute of every game in goal and has a 1.49 goals against average.
The Pioneers feature one of the top players in the Northeast Conference in Marcello Castro, who was named to the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List for 2012. The Pioneers opened the season with three straight victories before falling 3-2 at NJIT on Wednesday.
Last year in Fairfield, Yale and Sacred Heart played a 1-1 tie. Jacobson scored for the Bulldogs. Both teams failed to convert penalty kicks.
Yale at Quinnipiac, Friday – 4 p.m.
