Two Will Advance To National Ballot
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A pair of Yale men's soccer players have earned recognition for their work in the classroom in addition to their play on the field. Juniors Nick Alers and Max McKiernan have each been named to the Capital One Academic All-District I first team.
Alers, an economics/political science major, earned Capital One Academic All-America third team honors last year. He is the anchor of Yale's defense, which has posted five shutouts this season. As a sophomore, Alers was an NSCAA All-Northeast Region third team selection. He also was named first team All-Ivy and was the recipient of the Walter J. McNerney Award as the team's most valuable player.
McKiernan, who has started all 14 games he has appeared in this season, has earned academic honors for the first time in his career. He is a history/political science double major who serves as a volunteer tutor at St. Martin de Porres Academy which offers tuition-free and extended day education for boys and girls from low-income families in the New Haven area.
On the field, McKiernan was an honorable mention All-Ivy selection last fall as a sophomore.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
