NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Charlie Davies and Pat Haggerty scored second-half goals as No. 14 Boston College blanked Yale 3-0 at the Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium. Issey Maholo made five saves in goal to post his sixth shutout of the season for the Eagles, who improved to 8-3 overall with the victory. Geoff Hollington and freshman Dwayne Whylly combined to make four saves in goal for Yale.
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles jumped on the board when Davies knocked in the rebound of Johann Helgason's shot in the 55th minute. The Bulldogs had a great chance to tie with 9:20 left, but Maholo made a sliding, kick save on Alex Munns, who was sent in on a breakaway after a nifty feed from Andrew Dealy.
BC added an insurance goal less than two minutes later when Haggerty headed in Jarryd Goldberg's corner kick at 83:58. The Eagles' third score came on an own goal at 86:12.
"I don't think the final score reflects the way the game was played," said Yale head coach Brian Tompkins. "It was very even. We had a couple of careless moments, and they took advantage. In many ways this was one of our better performances. We will try to duplicate the good things on Saturday in Ithaca."
Both teams had eight shots on goal.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday at Cornell at 7 p.m.
