PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Kevin Davies scored the only goal of the game in the 58th minute as Brown earned a key 1-0 Ivy League victory over Yale. Dwayne Whylly made two saves in goal for the Bulldogs, who fell to 3-3 in league play. Brown, the defending Ivy champions, improved to 8-5-2 overall and 4-2 in the league with the victory.
The winning goal came when Marcos Romaneiro fed Davies, who broke in alone and fired a low shot past Whylly from five yards out. Chris Gomez made one save to post the shutout in goal for the Bears, who outshot Yale 12-6, including 9-3 in the second half.
"It was a very even match," said Yale head coach Brian Tompkins. "I thought we had the better of the play in the first half and Brown had the better of the play in the second. There weren't many scoring opportunities at either end, but Brown managed to put one in. We just couldn't find a way to get a goal."
The Bulldogs close out the regular season next Saturday when they host Princeton at 4 p.m. at the Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium.
