NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale men's soccer team returns to Reese Stadium on Saturday to host Ivy League foe Columbia. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m. and fans can follow live stats of the game from GameTracker. In addition, free audio is available at wybc.com.
The Bulldogs (5-7-2, 1-3 Ivy) are coming off a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to 25th-ranked Penn last Saturday. The Quakers scored the game-winning goal with just 1:55 left in the second half.
Goalkeeper Travis Chulick was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll on Monday. He posted his fifth shutout of the season by making seven saves in Yale's scoreless tie with 15th-ranked UConn and then had four stops against Penn. Chulick leads the Ivy League in saves (72) and is second in save percentage (.847).
Columbia (3-10-1, 1-3 Ivy) has an impressive 3-1 victory over then sixth-ranked UC Santa Barbara on its resume this season. Bayo Adafin leads the team in goals (5) and points (10). Felipe Castrillon and Scott Strickland each have two goals. Alex Aurrichio has started 13 games in goal and has a 1.50 goals against average.
"In spite of the results, we have been playing well the past few games and will be looking to keep that going against Columbia," said Yale head coach Brian Tompkins. "As with most Ivy games, I expect it to be close. We will need to capitalize on our goal scoring chances to get a win against a Columbia team that is better than its record might suggest."
