No. 4 Yale Upsets No. 2 Rochester
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The No. 4 Yale Bulldogs bested the No. 2 Rochester Yellowjackets Sunday afternoon on the road, pulling off a 6-3 upset at the Peter Lyman Squash Courts in Rochester.
The Bulldogs improved to 5-0 on the season with the impressive non-conference victory. Rochester dropped its first match after starting the year with four consecutive victories.
Rochester won the top three matches on the ladder, while Yale swept the four through nine positions. Sophomore John Roberts provided Yale's only 3-0 win of the day at the No. 5 position by defeating Yellowjacket Matt Domenick. Hywel Robinson (No. 4), Richard Dodd (No. 6), Naishadh Lalwani (No. 8), and Robert Berner (No. 9) all earned 3-1 victories. No. 7 Ryan Dowd pulled out a tough 3-2 victory with an 11-4 win in the fifth game.
The Yellowjackets moved into the No. 2 national ranking after defeating Princeton 5-4 on Dec. 13. The Bulldogs should move up from their current No. 4 ranking following the decisive victory.
The Bulldogs will next play in the Yale Round Robin on Friday against Bates. On Jan. 20 Yale will face No. 1 ranked Trinity at home in one of this season's most anticipated games.
