NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The No. 4 Yale men's squash team turned in a convincing 9-0 victory against No. 12 Bates on Friday night in the first of the team's three weekend matches at the Yale Round Robin at the Brady Squash Center.
The Bulldogs (6-0, 2-0 Ivy) swept the matches played at eight of the nine ladder positions in the process of defeating Bates (6-5). Kenneth Chan, Todd Ruth, Aaron Fuchs and Richard Dodd earned 3-0 wins at the No. 1 through No. 4 positions. The bottom of the ladder was equally strong, with Christopher Plimpton, John Fulham, Michael Maruca and Russell Feldman also delivering sweeps at No. 6 through No. 9. After splitting the first two games of his match, No. 5 Ryan Dowd turned in two dominant games, winning 11-3 and 11-0, to seal his victory.
Junior Michael Maruca, seeing his first match play of the 2009-2010 season, turned in a particularly dominant performance, dropping only seven total points in his 11-2, 11-2, 11-3 victory over Bates' Nicholas Kourides.
The Bulldogs will play two matches tomorrow. Action begins at 10:45 a.m. against Cornell and continues at 3:45 versus the Northeastern squad.
