PHILADELPHIA — No. 3 Yale got its Ivy League road trip off to a good start on Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over host No. 10 Penn.
With the win, Yale (11-1, 3-0 Ivy) remains undefeated in Ivy League play. Penn (6-3, 2-2 Ivy) saw its conference mark drop to .500, but will have an opportunity to reestablish a winning Ivy record on Sunday against No. 19 Brown.
Although the Quakers have had some success as of late — most notably in their last match, a 7-2 win over No. 7 Princeton — the Bulldogs took control of the match early on and never let up, putting together a strong performance en route to the sweep victory.
In the bottom four spots, the Elis prevailed in several close contests. In the eighth position, sophomore Pehlaaj Bajwa stormed back from a 2-0 deficit, winning the third game 11-1 before taking the next two to secure the victory. Senior Eric Caine replicated Bajwa's feat at No. 7, winning three straight games over Penn's John Dudzik after dropping the first two.
The top half of Yale's lineup proved more than a match for Penn's. The Bulldogs won the matchups at Nos. 1 through 5 in straight sets.
Yale will look to keep up its Ivy League success on Sunday as they face off against Princeton. The match will begin at 12 p.m.
