Bulldogs Defeat Crimson 5-4

Feb. 11, 2009

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Bulldogs improved to 14-2 this season with a 5-4 victory over rival Harvard Wednesday in Cambridge. The victory clinched second place in the Ivy League for Yale.

Junior Todd Ruth, junior Aaron Fuchs, senior Francis Johnson, senior Colin Campbell, and sophomore Christopher Plimpton all won for the Bulldogs in the victory.

Playing No. 2, Ruth battled to a 9-5, 9-2, 8-10, 0-9, 10-9 victory over Verdi Disesa. Fuchs rolled to a 9-5, 9-4, 9-4 win over Eliot Buchanan at No. 4.

While Ruth squeaking out the victory by a score of 10-9 in the fifth game at No. 2 would prove to be the difference maker for Yale, the key for the Bulldogs was the depth of their lineup and the victories at the bottom of the lineup. At No. 7, Johnson cruised to a 9-1, 9-4, 9-7 win. Campbell pulled out a 9-1, 9-3, 5-9, 9-6 win at No. 8 over Edward Reeves. At the No. 9 spot, Plimpton was nearly flawless in his 9-0, 9-2, 9-0 victory over William Ahmed.

Yale will next play February 20 at the CSA Teams Championships, the national championships of men's squash.
