Yale Loses to Rochester 5-4

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale lost to Rochester 5-4 in the quarterfinals of the CSA Team Championships Friday in Princeton.

The Bulldogs, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, could not win any matches at the top of the lineup against the No. 6 seed Rochester. While the Elis won matches at No. 6, 7, 8 and 9, they failed to win a match at the top five spots.

Playing No. 6, senior Colin Campbell battled his way to a 6-9, 2-9, 9-4, 9-2, 9-7 victory over Will Newnham. Sophomore Naishadh Lalwani pulled out a 9-0, 7-9, 9-3, 9-1 over Joe Chapman.

At the No. 8 spot, senior Francis Johnson had to go five to defeated Adam Perkiomaki 9-3, 9-1, 2-9, 5-9, 9-2. Sophomore Christopher Plimpton rolled to a 9-6, 9-0, 9-0 victory at No. 9.

Earlier this season, Yale defeated Rochester 5-4. This time the result was reversed. Yale will play Penn in the semifinals of the consolation bracket Saturday.
