Bulldogs Elect Ruth as Captain
April 6, 2009
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Todd Ruth, a junior History of Science and History of Medicine major from Gladwyne, Penn., was elected to serve as captain for the Yale men's squash team for the 2009-10 season. Ruth will take over for outgoing captain Ethan Oetter, who led the Bulldogs to a fifth place finish at the CSA team championships.
Ruth has started all three years at Yale and played in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions last season for the Bulldogs. Ruth, Sharyar Aziz, Russell Feldman, Aaron Fuchs, and Christopher Reid will compose the senior class for the Bulldogs for the next season.
Under Ruth, the Bulldogs will attempt to dethrone Trinity from its reign as national champion and Princeton from its reign as Ivy League champion, Ruth said.
"It was an honor to be named captain. The squash team has always been my top priority at Yale," Ruth said. "I am not satisfied with finishing at number 3 and I think if we train hard this summer and with our recruiting class next year we could have a shot at beating Princeton and Trinity."
Head Coach Dave Talbott said he looks forward to having Ruth serve as captain for next season.
"Todd Ruth is a great choice for captain of the 2009-10 Yale Men's Squash Team. He will lead a very strong team and an excellent senior class," Talbott said. "Seniors Aaron Fuchs, Rusty Feldman, Sharyar Aziz, and Chris Reid will join Todd in leading the squad. Todd has evolved into one of the top college players after a great junior career, and he has the respect of the entire team to lead this group to an Ivy Championship."
