Bulldogs in Fourth After First Day at Terrier Invitational
Following Friday morning's prelims, the men got official action underway with the 200 yard freestyle relay. Yale's ‘A' squad of Mike Dominski, Matt Boone, Lugar Choi, and Captain Tom Robinson swam a 1:27.28, good for seventh overall. Dominski was also at work in the team's next event - the 500 freestyle - placing fifth overall in that race just behind teammate and fourth-place finisher Matt Lee (4:36.63).
Five Bulldogs racked up points in the 200 IM, as Choi's time of 1:55.02 placed him fifth overall (14 points) with freshmen Jared Lovett finishing just behind him in sixth, earning 13 points. Matt Lee took first in the ‘B' heat, while teammates Craig Steen and Zak Murez earned five and three points, respectively, taking the twelfth and fourteenth spots overall.
Robinson was Yale's lone points winner in the 50 free with a time of 22.20, sixteenth overall, and in the final event of the day, the 400 yard medley relay, the Yale A squad of Robinson, Steen, Dominski, and Choi swam a time of 46.61, earning 26 points for their sixth place finish. They were immediately followed in the standings by the Eli ‘B' corps of Alex Gornitzky, Murez, Scott Shinton, and Mert Altinok, who took seventh overall.
The Bulldogs will take to the pool again Saturday and Sunday with hopes of bolstering their points total and besting last year's fifth place Terrier Invitational finish.
