Bulldogs Back in the Pool for the Bucknell Invitational
Yale Competes in the Bucknell Invitational Friday, Saturday and Sunday
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale men's swimming and diving team is set to compete this weekend at the Bucknell Invitational. The three-day meet is hosted by Bucknell University and will take place Nov. 16-18 in Lewisburg, Pa., at the Kinney Auditorium. The Elis are back in the pool for the first time since their season-opening victory against Columbia on Saturday, Nov. 10. Competing in one of their only two home meets, Yale defeated Columbia by a score of 170-130 at Kiphuth Pool. Yale was led by strong performances from sophomores Alwin Firmansyah and Andrew Heymann, who each won three individual races.
The Elis will need to rely on fresh talent and depth this year, as they feature only two senior swimmers and one senior diver. The incoming freshman class includes seven swimmers and was ranked 25th in the nation by CollegeSwimming.com. The influx of depth will surely help to solidify a roster already bolstered by senior Captain Jared Lovett, junior Paschall Davis and sophomore Rob Harder. The diving team returns senior Aaron Seriff-Cullick, junior Cole Florey and junior Tyler Pramer.
Yale swimming and diving has alumni connections with the Bucknell University aquatics program. Former Yale swimmer Dan Schinnerer '01 is the head coach of the Bucknell swimming and diving team. Pam Armold, the Bucknell aquatics program director, worked as an assistant coach at Yale from 1998-2001 with Robert J.H. Kiphuth Head Coach Tim Wise. Armold is this weekend's meet director.
The three-day meet kicks off on Friday with preliminary racing beginning at 10:00 a.m. EST and finals commencing at 6:00 p.m. EST. In addition to the host, Bucknell, Yale will be competing against Binghamton, Fordham, Georgetown, La Salle and Delaware. Recaps will be provided here on YaleBulldogs.com for each day of competition. Live stats will be available for those wishing to follow along at home and can be found at http://www.bucknellbison.com/livestats/c-swim/12buckinvite/, with results being posted after each successive heat.
