Elis Start New Year Against Cornell
Bulldogs Look to Continue Season Monday
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's swimming and diving team is set to compete this Monday, Jan. 7 against Cornell. The Elis will be competing at Teagle Hall Pool in Ithaca, NY. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. EST.
The Bulldogs will be competing for the first time in 2013. Yale won its last dual meet of 2012 on Saturday, Dec. 1st. The Elis defeated Massachusetts by a score of 213 to 87. It was an emphatic win to mark the end of the calendar year, in which Yale broke two pool records at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool in Amherst, Mass.
Sophomore Andrew Heymann set the new pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke. Heymann was also a member of the 200-yard medley relay that broke the pool record. Sophomores Alwin Firmansyah and Mike Lazris and junior Pat Killian joined Heymann on the relay team.
The Bulldogs aim to continue their impressive 2012-2013 season against Cornell on Saturday. The Bulldogs have claimed victories over Columbia and Massachusetts in dual meets, while also winning the seven-team Bucknell Invitational, thus far this season.
Cornell has had a rocky start to their season and will certainly be looking to reverse some of 2012's fortunes. Cornell has already lost dual meets at home against Dartmouth and Harvard and are looking for their first home victory of the season.
Yale handedly defeated Cornell last season by a score of 204.5 to 95.5. However, the Bulldogs held a home-field advantage in that dual meet.
Yale has lost its last two meets in Ithaca, NY. The Elis last swam at Teagle Hall Pool in the 2010-2011 season, when Cornell defeated Yale in a close contest, 166 to 134.
