Elis Ready for Ivy League Championships
Bulldogs Look to Wrap Up Strong Season
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's swimming and diving team will head to Providence, R.I., this weekend for the Ivy League Championships. The three-day meet begins Thursday, March 7 and ends Saturday, March 9. The meet will take place at the Katherine Moran Aquatics Center in Providence. The Elis will be looking to improve upon last year's team performance and for individual 'A' or 'B' times, which qualify the competitors for the NCAA Championships which take place March 28-30 in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Elis are coming off a home victory over Brown on Feb. 16. Yale defeated Brown 213-86 at Robert J.H. Kiphuth Exhibition Pool. On that night seniors Mike Dominski, Jared Lovett and Aaron Seriff-Cullick were honored for their commitment to the Yale men's swimming and diving program.
The home victory against Brown gave the Bulldogs an 8-2 record for the 2012-13 season, their best record since the 2003-04 season. The Bulldogs' only losses on the season came to Harvard and Princeton, who figure to be the team's primary competition for this weekend's Championship meet. However, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth and Penn all offered admirable competition against Yale this season. Yale defeated Columbia 170-130 on Nov. 10. The Bulldogs defeated Cornell 176-124 on Jan. 7 and Penn by the same score on Jan. 12. Yale narrowly defeated Dartmouth 154.5-145.5 on Jan. 12.
While the team hopes to perform well, several swimmers are looking to swim 'A' or 'B' cut times this weekend to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Divers hope to meet the NCCA zone qualifying standards for a chance to compete at the NCAA Zone Championships.
