Yale Outscores Harvard To Win Team Title At 2005 Ira Copa Invitational

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Led by Sophomore Geof Zann's (Boca Raton, FL) wins in both the 100 and 200 meter backstroke, Yale captured the team championship at the 2005 Ira Copa Coqui Invitational. The Bulldogs scored 156 points in the 18-event meet, outscoring league rival Harvard, which finished second with 123 points. The Puerto Rico National team placed third with 56 points.
Other schools in the meet were from American University, Syracuse University, the University of Puerto Rico and The University of Sagrado Corazoni.
Zann's winning times of 1:00.85 (100 backstroke) and 2:14.29 (200 backstroke) were both meet records. Six other meet records were broken at the meet by swimmers from American, Harvard and Syracuse.
Yale concluded the meet on a very strong note by sweeping the top three places in the final individual event as freshmen Billy Rubenstein (Chestnut Hill, MA)) and Hugh Sullivan (Alexandria, VA) placed second and third behind Zann.
The Bulldogs travel to Maine for a dual meet this Sunday at noon.
