Bulldogs Start Off Competition Against Navy and Cornell With Diving

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Yale Bulldogs men's swimming and diving team began competition against Cornell and Navy with diving events on Friday night. The Bulldog divers competed strongly against tough competition and give the team a strong start going into the swimming competition that will commence at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday in Ithaca, N.Y.

The top performance of the day for the Bulldogs was a third-place finish in the three-meter event by sophomore Eric Olson. Olson, who has already qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the event, scored 278.70. The event was won by Navy's Olaf Olson with an outstanding total of 377.70, missing the pool record by just under 2 points. The next Eli diver to place was junior Drew Teer with a seventh-place finish (237.05). Freshman Colton Staab rounded out the Bulldog competitors with a 12th-place finish (228.70).

The Bulldogs also competed in the one-meter diving event Friday evening. This time, Teer led the way for the Bulldogs with a sixth-place finish with a point total of 252.05. He was closely followed by Staab in seventh (248.60) and Olson in ninth (230.85). The event was won by Navy's Jon Galinski with a point total 296.20.

Competition resumes on Saturday with the entirety of the swimming competition. Scores from both days of competition will be combined to determine the overall standings for the meet.
