Elis Have Strong Showing Against Navy and Cornell

Ithaca, NY - The Yale men's swimming and diving team had an excellent meet this weekend against Cornell and Navy. Yale triumphed over Navy 136 to 107, although Cornell beat the Bulldogs 136 to 107.  Cornell was the meet winner.  Andrew Foss '07 was a standout in the 200 and 500 free, as well as a key player in the relay events. Brendan Everman '06, Dennan Mcloskey '09 and Alex Righi also performed well in the freestyle events.

In the 400 medley relay, the Yale A team of Geoff Zann '07, Colin Stalnecker '08, Ben Dzialo '07 and Chris Pool '09 came in third place with a time of 3:31.04.

Everman was second in the 1000 free, clocking in at 9:38.65. McCloskey was fourth with 9:43.02, Kent Arber '07 was fifth with 9:48.11, and Jack Hutchinson '07 was sixth with a time of 9:54.02.

In the 200 free, Foss captured second with a time of 1:40.60. Sebastian Cousins `09 was fourth with 1:44.63.

In the 50 free, Righi swam to third, with a time of 20.89. Kieran Locke '06 was sixth in 21.62.

McCloskey was second in the 200 IM, clocking in at 1:56.21. Billy Rubenstein `08 was fifth in 1:57.68, and Chris Dufek '07 was sixth in 1:58.41.

In the 200 fly, Pool was second in 1:52.33 and Dzialo was third with a time of 1:54.11.

Righi also performed well in the 100 free, taking second place in 45.67. Locke was close behind in fourth place with a time of 47.07.

Zann was third in the 200 back, with a time of 1:51.36. McCloskey also put in an outstanding performance, coming in fifth for the Bulldogs in 1:53.68.

In the 500 free, Foss smashed the competition and claimed first place in 4:34.67. Kevin Pudas '07 captured third in 4:40.16, and Everman was fourth in 4:41.90.

In the 200 breaststroke, Stalnecker was barely edged out by Cornell's Dave McKechnie. McKechnie claimed first in 2:09.36, while Stalnecker was second with a time of 2:09.41. Colin O'Brady '06 was fifth in 2:12.78.

The Bulldog's A team did well in the 400 free relay, with Foss, Locke, Pool and Righi coming together for second place finish with a time of 3:06.03.

Yale had a strong showing in the 1 meter dive. Jeff Lichtenstein '08 was second with a score of 280.85. He was followed by Doug Scott '08, whose score of 273.80 nabbed him a strong third place. Pat Hayden '08 scored 265.35 for fourth.

In the 3 meter dive, Scott finished in fourth place with a score of 280.

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, Jan. 20 at home in New Haven when they host Fairfield.
