Bulldogs Open Competition at ECAC Championships

Feb. 27, 2009

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Bulldogs opened the first day of competition at the ECAC Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs, who currently sit in ninth place with 49 points, are looking to move up in the rankings and are prepared to do so because the team only competed in three events.

The Bulldogs placed fourth at the meet last year. While they are currently in ninth, the meet has hardly begun for the team because most of the meet is yet to come. The ECAC Championships features tough competition, but the Bulldogs should do well as the team is able to utilize their depth. Only the members of the team that are not competing at the Ivy League Championships will be swimming at the ECAC Championships.

The top finish of the day was a sixth-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of sophomore Alex Gornitzky, sophomore Zak Murez, freshman Matt Boone and senior Dan Li finished in a time of 3:35.97. Loyola won in a time of 3:20.10.

The next best finish of the day was a ninth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Li, Murez, freshman Patrick Puhl and junior Jon Taylor finished in 1:24.78.

The only individual competitor of the day was Taylor in the 50-yard freestyle. He finished in 12th place in a time of 21.18. He was even faster in the preliminaries, with a time of 21.12.

The team will continue competition on Saturday.
