Chapel Hill, NC - The Bulldogs finished day at the Nike Cup in fifth place with 108 points through 12 events Thursday at Chapel Hill. Junior Alex Righi took first place in the 50-yard freestyle to earn Yale 20 points.
After placing second in the 50-yard preliminaries Thursday morning behind Kaan Tayla of Virginia Tech, Righi topped the field in the evening with a time of 20.06.
Earning 26 points for the Yale, the Bulldogs four man 200-yard freestyle relay `A' team, consisting of junior Chris Pool, Righi, freshman Kyle Veatch, and freshman Lugar Choi, placed in sixth with a time of 1.23.76. Sophomore Tom Robinson, junior Tyler Scheid, junior Sebastian Cousins, and senior Billy Rubenstein finished 13th place and earned 8 points in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1.27.51.
In the men's 1-meter diving, senior Jeffrey Lichtenstein earned 16 points for Yale with a third place finish behind a score of 321.50.
In the 400 Medley Relay, the Yale `A' team earned 26 points with a sixth place finish led by Righi, junior Matt Sweitzer, Pool, and Veatch. The `B' team earned 12 points for Yale with an 11th place finish led by Rubenstein, sophomore Craig Steen, Scheid, and Choi.
The Bulldogs will compete in the 200 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, and 800 Free Relay Friday.
