Elis Named ITA All-Academic Team Again; Seven Honored as ITA Scholar-Athletes
The Yale men's tennis team earned ITA All-Academic Team recognition and had seven individuals named ITA Scholar-Athletes for 2010-11: Jordan Abergel (Pacific Palisades, Calif.), Ryan Berman (Armonk, N.Y.), Erik Blumenkranz (Portola Valley, Calif.), Patrick Chase (Portola Valley, Calif.), Zachary Dean (Commack, N.Y.), Daniel Hoffman (Atherton, Calif.) and Joel Samaha (Tampa, Fla.). The seven honorees tie Yale for second among Ivy League teams.

Bulldogs Prominent in Final ITA Northeast Region Rankings
The Yale men’s tennis team is featured prominently in the final Northeast Region rankings, released Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Bulldogs finished No. 9 in the region as a team, and had three singles players -- rising juniors Daniel Hoffman (Atherton, Calif.), John Huang (Irvine, Calif.) and Marc Powers (Stamford, Conn.) -- ranked in the regional top 20, making Yale the only school with that many players ranked in the top 20. Additionally, the Yale doubles team of Hoffman and Powers was ranked No. 2 regionally. As the top returning doubles team in the region, Hoffman and Powers will represent the Northeast in the main draw of the All-American Championships this fall.

Erik Blumenkranz, a rising senior from Portola Valley, Calif., was elected captain for the Yale men's tennis team for the 2011-12 season by his teammates. Blumenkranz will succeed Calvin Bennett as captain next year.

Powers, Hoffman, Huang Named All Ivy
Sophomore Marc Powers (Stamford, Conn.) was voted to the First Team All-Ivy in singles for the second year in a row. Powers was also unanimously named First Team All-Ivy in doubles. Two other Bulldogs were also honored, including sophomore Daniel Hoffman (Atherton, Calif.) for the First Team All-Ivy in doubles. Hoffman and classmate John Huang (Irvine, Calif.) both were named Second Team All-Ivy in singles.

Yale Falls 6-1 to Brown
The Yale men's tennis team (9-12, 1-6 Ivy) lost 6-1 to the Brown Bears (15-6, 2-4 Ivy) in its last match of the season on Saturday. Sophomore Marc Powers delivered the sole point for the Bulldogs at No. 1, with a straight-set win against Brown freshman Sam Fife (6-3, 7-6).

After a year of ups and downs, the Yale men’s tennis team will play its final match of the season on Saturday against the Brown Bears. Weather permitting, the match will be held outdoors at Yale at 2p.m. Before the match, the Bulldogs will honor their three seniors for Senior Day: captain Calvin Bennett, Jordan Abergel, and Ryan Berman.

The Yale men's tennis team lost to the No. 65 Harvard Crimson (14-9) on Friday outdoors at Yale by a 5-2 score. Harvard improves to 3-2 in the Ivy league, while Yale drops to 1-4 (9-11 overall).

Yale to Play No. 65 Harvard, Dartmouth
The Yale men’s tennis team (9-10, 1-3 Ivy) has only three matches left in the season; two will be decided this weekend. First, Yale will host the No. 65 Harvard Crimson (13-9, 2-2 Ivy League) outdoors, weather permitting, on Friday at 2p.m. This will be Yale’s first home match to be played outdoors.

The Yale men's tennis team (9-9, 1-2 Ivy) lost 4-3 to the Columbia Lions (7-12, 1-2 Ivy) yesterday. The Bulldogs captured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, but were just edged out by the Lions in the singles matches.

After opening its Ivy Season with a win over Penn and loss against Princeton, the Yale men’s tennis team (9-8, 1-1 Ivy) will travel to both Columbia and Cornell this weekend. The Bulldogs will first play the Lions (6-12, 9-2 Ivy) on Saturday at 2p.m., followed by a trip to Ithaca to play the Big Red (19-4, 2-0 Ivy) on Sunday at 2p.m.

After opening its Ivy Season with a 5-2 win over No. 61 Penn on Friday, the Yale men's tennis team came up just short against the No. 58 Princeton Tigers. Princeton managed to slide past the Bulldogs with a 4-3 victory.

Yale to Open Ivy Season Against Penn, Princeton
The Yale men’s tennis team (8-7) has had its share of ups and downs this season, but none as important as its next step: Ivy competition. The Bulldogs begin their Ivy season this Friday, hosting No. 61 Penn at 2p.m. followed by No. 58 Princeton at 2p.m. on Saturday at the Cullman – Heyman Tennis Center. Last year, Yale finished second in the Ivy League behind Columbia, who has won the title for two consecutive years.

In the Yale Men's Tennis Team's last match before starting the Ivy League Season, the Bulldogs showed that they are ready for competition by defeating the Sacred Heart Pioneers by a 5-2 score. Tuesday's win moves the Bulldogs record to 8-7 for the spring season, and highlights great performances by many Elis.

St. John’s Rallies to Edge Yale 4-3
The last time the Yale men’s tennis team played St. John’s, in the ECAC Indoor Team Championship in February, St. John’s won 5-2. That included a win in doubles, and three of the Red Storm’s four wins in singles came in straight sets. Yale made things much closer the second time around Sunday afternoon at Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center, but St. John’s won three three-set singles matches to rally for a 4-3 victory.

Yale Edges Old Dominion 4-3
The Yale men’s tennis team has been proving that it can win the close ones recently, and Friday’s neutral-site match with Old Dominion in North Carolina provided another example. The Monarchs had won 13 of their last 15 matches, including five by 7-0 scores. But the Bulldogs started the day by winning the doubles point, and a split in singles play -- where four of the six matches went to a third set -- gave Yale the 4-3 win.

Abergel’s Win at No. 6 Clinches 4-3 Victory Over Binghamton
Senior Jordan Abergel’s three-set win at No. 6 singles gave the Yale men’s tennis team a thrilling 4-3 victory over three-time reigning America East champion Binghamton Saturday afternoon at Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. With all other singles matches finishing in two sets, Abergel and Binghamton’s Ruben Devos were the last two on the courts. After dropping the first set 6-3, Abergel won the last two to clinch the win for the Bulldogs. Devos rallied from a 5-1 deficit in the third to tie the set at five, but Abergel won the last two games.

The Yale men’s tennis team beat Quinnipiac 6-1 Friday afternoon at Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center, giving the Bulldogs three wins in their last four matches. Yale swept doubles and won five of six singles matches to knock off the defending NEC Champions.

Following its first weekend off this spring, the Yale men’s tennis team (4-5) will play two matches this weekend. The Bulldogs will host the Quinnipiac Bobcats (3-3) on Friday at 2 p.m. and the Binghamton Bearcats (2-8) on Saturday at 2 p.m. as well. The Bulldogs have won two of their past three matches, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson and Stony Brook at home.

Coming off a 7-0 victory against Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday morning, the Yale Bulldogs fell 5-2 to Marist in the second of three matches scheduled for this weekend. The Bulldogs played the singles matches against Marist on Saturday afternoon, and concluded the doubles matches on Sunday morning to round out the match. The Bulldogs will play Stony Brook on Sunday as well.

Bulldogs Defeat Stony Brook 4-3
In the final match of the weekend, the Bulldogs pulled off a 4-3 win against Stony Brook. Sophomore Daniel Hoffman, junior Erik Blumenkranz, and senior Jordan Abergel all delivered singles victories for the Bulldogs, at No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5, respectively. All the matches that the Bulldogs lost against Stony Brook made it to a third set, signifying high level of play and competition.

Recovering from two tough losses at the ECAC Division I Team Championship, the Yale Men's Tennis Team bounced back to a 7-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday morning. The Bulldogs swept all six singles matches without dropping a single set, and captured the doubles point as well with a perfect 3-0 doubles record.

Powers Shines at Pilot Pen
Numerous Yale undergraduates have competed in the qualifying events of New Haven’s Pilot Pen International. Marc Powers ’13, the first Ivy tennis player to win the league rookie and player of the year simultaneously, was the first Bulldog to get a spot in Pilot Pen’s main draw. Yale’s top player took full advantage of the opportunity and nearly pulled off a major doubles upset today in front of a hometown crowd in the friendly confines of the Yale courts.

Marc Powers (Stamford, Conn.), a sophomore on the Yale tennis team, will get a jump on his teammates for important match time, and he will do it on his home courts. Powers, who will team with Hopkins star Nolan Paige, competes in the doubles main draw of the Pilot Pen Tournament that takes place Aug. 20 – 28 at the Connecticut Tennis Center on the campus of Yale University.
