Yale Falls to No. 65 Harvard
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale men's tennis team lost to the No. 65 Harvard Crimson (14-9) on Friday outdoors at Yale by a 5-2 score. Harvard improves to 3-2 in the Ivy league, while Yale drops to 1-4 (9-11 overall).
The Crimson started off the match with the lead, capturing the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
Sophomore John Huang (4-1 Ivy) played No. 1 singles for his second consecutive match. Huang played Harvard junior Jonathan Pearlman, and came close to forcing the match to three sets with a long second set (7-5) after dropping the first set 6-1. Pearlman, who transferred from Brown this year, has consistently played No. 1 singles for the Crimson.
Yale's two points came from two sophomores; Marc Powers and Daniel Hoffman won their singles matches at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
The closest and toughest match of the day was played at No. 4 between Bulldog junior Erik Blumenkranz and Crimson junior Alistair Felton (7-6, 7-6). Felton edged out Blumenkranz for the win, but each point was long and hard fought, going to many deuces.
Yale will play the Dartmouth Big Green in Hanover on Sunday at 2p.m.
