NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's tennis team will host the Connecticut State Championships this weekend at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. Doubles matches begin on Friday morning, and the tournament will continue until Sunday. The draw features players from Hartford, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart University, University of Connecticut, and Fairfield University.
The Bulldogs have entered ten singles players: senior captain Erik Blumenkranz and classmate Joel Samaha, juniors Daniel Hoffman and Zach Dean, sophomores Kyle Dawson, Tommy Ratchford and Patrick Chase, and freshmen Matt Saiontz, Daniel Faierman and Zach Krumholz. In addition, Yale has entered five doubles teams: Blumenkranz and Saointz, Dawson and Dean, Ratchford and Krumholz, Chase and Faierman, and Samaha and Huang. The Bulldogs have switched around their usual doubles partners for this tournament.
Last year, the Bulldogs played well at State Championship, with an all-Yale semifinal between Jordan Abergel '11 and Samaha. Samaha was forced to retire midway through the second set with an injury.
This will be the Bulldog's last tournament of the fall season.
