Round Robin Begins with 6-1 Win Over FDU
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's tennis team returned home to Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center Saturday and snapped a three-match losing streak with a 6-1 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson in the opening match. Play continues Saturday afternoon with Yale hosting Marist, a match that will be completed Sunday morning.
Yale (5-3) swept the doubles matches against FDU (2-5), including an 8-5 win at No. 1 for the team of juniors Daniel Hoffman and Marc Powers. They are now 5-1 in the spring, 14-4 overall.
All five of Yale's singles wins over FDU came in straight sets, including a 6-4, 6-2 win for Powers at No. 1. He is now 4-0 in singles this season, though it had been nearly a month since his last win -- he had an unfinished match in the first round at the ECAC Indoor Championship match two weeks ago and did not play singles in the two matches after that. Junior John Huang, back at his customary No. 2 spot, delivered a 7-5, 6-2 win. He is now 4-0 at No. 2.
An update will be posted after the conclusion of the match vs. Marist.
