Elis Wrap Up Successful Weekend at Yale Shootout

Brown Continues to Roll, Bulldogs Go Undefeated in Doubles

NEW HAVEN, C.T. – The Yale men's tennis team followed up an impressive first day at the Yale Shootout with an equally stellar performance on Sunday.  In singles, the Bulldogs won all but two matches on the day against players from Army and St. Bonaventure.  The Elis went undefeated in doubles to bring Sunday's total win-loss record to 13-2.

Freshman Jason Brown extended his unbeaten streak to 11 matches with a solid 6-4, 6-3 win over Army's Asika Isoh.  Senior captain Daniel Hoffman pulled out a hard-fought victory over Elliot Fanshel of St. Bonaventure, 7-6, 6-2, while Hoffman's classmates, Zachary Dean, John Huang and Marc Powers, all cruised to straightforward wins.  Other Bulldogs who posted singles triumphs were juniors Patrick Chase and Kyle Dawson, as well as sophomores Zachary Krumholz and Matt Saiontz.

In doubles, the Elis dominated, only dropping seven total games among all four matches.  Hoffman and Powers, who comprise the No. 54 team in the nation, defeated Army's team of Caison Best and Henry Jang-Milsten 8-2.  Chase and Huang won their doubles match by the same score, while sophomore Daniel Faierman and junior Tommy Ratchford had a reversal of fortunes from Saturday's doubles loss with a convincing 8-2 win over St. Bonaventure's pairing of Trevor Haskell and Javier Ortiz.

The Bulldogs will now have almost two weeks of rest from competitive match play before they host the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships for the Northeast region starting Thursday, Oct. 18.
